Book Review - The Loudest Beagle on the Block

Loudest Beagle on the block
Loudest Beagle on the block is a book about  a dog called trumpet. The owners named him that because of his loud howling.

When the owner plays the piano, the beagle howls. The owner is a girl in middle school and is going to perform in the talent show playing the piano.  But she can’t practice because trumpet howls every time she plays it. Can she practices enough to be in the talent show? I recommend this for ages 8-10 and I rate this book 8 out of 10.

The Blue Whale
The largest animals ever to have been on the earth are still living today.

The blue whale is much bigger than the largest dinosaurs. One blue whale measured nearly 34 meters and weighed more than 220 tones.

Everything about the the blue whale is big! Even its tongue may weigh up to four tonnes. They also call to each other in big voices which can be heard over 800 kilometers away. They are easily the loudest living creatures.

Because they are mammals, blue whales breathe air. This means they must come to the surface of the ocean to breathe. The ‘waterspout’ a whale blows out is not really water at all-it is hot breath and water vapour.

Mothers feed their young on milk. By the time they are a year old, the young calf may weigh more than 20 tonnes. They can live for up to 45 years!

Moment in time Mary Mackillop

Mary Mackillop Center
One day, my school went to Mary Mackillop Center in Mission Bay were the Josephites lived.

It’s lunch time at the Mary Mackillop center, so we got our bags and sat under a tree with our class. As I’m eating my lunch I saw the sisters throwing lollies on the fresh smelling grass. The children were trying to get the most lollies in the scramble. The children loved the scrambling and competing for lollies- it was fun although I was just standing and looking at them collecting their loot.

The green grass looks like a green carpet, soft and spongy.  As I sit on the grass I can feel the blades tickling my fingers as I lean over to rest. It is supports my back like my favorite cushion.

Screenshot 2014-11-05 at 10.34.03 AM.pngI can hear the loud sound of the waves coming from the beach. I can hear splashing sounds as the currents splash against the rocks. Birds are chirping as they glide in the wind to catch fish to eat with their hooked  beaks.

I can feel the rough concrete as I walked by firmly on the path. It is not even some portions are smooth and most of it are rough. I can feel the grits of the gravel on my shoes. Many children did not notice this.
