THE CAPTURE
Screenshot 2015-06-26 at 11.32.38 AM.pngThe forest kingdom of Tyto is where barn owls live. But evil lurks in the owl world, the evil that threatens to shatter Tyto's peace and change the course of Soren’s life forever. Soren is captured and taken to a dark, forbidden canyon called an orphanage. Soren believes that the canyon is worst than an orphanage. He and his friend Gylfie know that the only way out is up. To escape, they will need to do something they have never done before, fly. And then begin a magical journey. Along the way, Soren and Gylfie meet Twilight and Digger. The four owls band together to seek the truth and protect the owl world from danger. I recommend this book for ages 9-12 because it has 27 chapters. I rate this book 8 out of 10.

How to be Clever

How to be clever is a book about finding what type of person you are. For example, a bookworm always have their nose in a book and will tell the teacher if they have misspelled a word or two. Or a Dreamer, they are usually looking out the window and they don't cause trouble but when the teacher asks them a question they have no clue whats going on. They love jazzing things up by decoding exercise books, pencils cases or even themselves. This is a guide to improve your memory, speed up your reading and get better grades. I recommend this book for ages 8 & above. I rate this book 10/10 because it was really helpful.

DoGo news urban ants love junk as much as humans

DoGo news urban ants love junk as much as humans
The author believes we should not pick up any junk food that falls on pavement because ants like to eat junk food as much as humans. Ants like to eat sugar (sugar cane) and corn, that means they like chips and cookies which are pretty much all processed food ; as well as meat containing a considerable amount of isotope. Clint Penick came to the conclusion that some ants loved junk food because he tested the ants by finding 100 specimens of 21 different species across the Manhattan. Then, he measured the levels of carbon 13 in the bodies of each species. He believes it's good for them because most ants live in pavement nooks and crannies. So if you drop food in the nooks and crannies, caretakers can save time cleaning the pavements, For the ants already ate all the food. Its also good so they don’t to kill insects. I think ants adapted to human food and thrive well to where they habitats.

Making of chocolate

Screenshot 2015-06-18 at 2.15.21 PM.pngMaking Of Chocolate
Did you know chocolate's main ingredient is cocoa, that comes from cocoa trees? Cocoa trees are grown in warm places close to the equator. About 70% comes from West Africa. Did you know cocoa pods look like small footballs and inside is the beans. They are shipped around the world to make chocolates. After it gets to its destination, its blended, cleaned, dried and the skins are broken leaving only the nibs that are the main ingredient in making chocolate.
How to make chocolate
  • nibs are grounded into a liquid cocoa mass
  • mass is process to create cocoa powder and cocoa butter
  • milk and dark chocolate are made by mixing these ingredients and few more are added to make chocolate bars
  • white chocolate has no cocoa mass or cocoa powder, only cocoa butter
  • sugar, milk and lecithin are then added and put through a series of rollers
  • conching is the final preparation and step in chocolate making
  • the ingredients are carefully blended in a large tank for the final flavour development
  • after that the chocolate is shaped into blocks and bars or chocolate drops
  • before we make your favorite chocolate, it goes through tempering.
  • when tempering they heat and cool the chocolate into a crystal texture; this ensures perfect shine and texture
  • Screenshot 2015-06-18 at 2.19.26 PM.pngafter that the chocolate is then moulded into shapes

Life in trenches

Life in trenches
Scared of war
2nd August 1914
‘Honey, the mayor wants you to go to war, you have to be there at dawn’ ‘uh … ok mum’. My hands are shaking, my heart is trembling. I feel like I could just die because I know I wouldn't survive. I wanted to tell mum but I was too scared.

Going to war
3 August 1914
Today is my first day of war, I've done a whole lot of training and I …. think i’m ready. I made a few friends over the night but it's not about making friends. Because my life and my country is at risk. I got to survive for my family and friends. But I am excited because I get to hop in a big truck.

Second day
4 August 1914
To day is my second day of war i’m so scared and nervous. Will I survive today?
“I will survive for my family!” Sunny, Sunny, wake up wake up! he’s gone. I”ve come back from war and I’m safe and sound but my friend, Sunny died. I met him at the cabin, his bed is beside me. How can I sleep with out him.

5 August 1914
I've come back from war and i'm scared and wish to go home. I wonder why did I have to sign up to go to gallipoli? There’s no sign going back I just wish. Does mum remember me does dad, I hope so. I get out my picture folder of my family that I brough. I remember the good old days where I didn’t have to think of war, when I was little, when mom makes me hot chocolate on a winters day. I wish I could be mommys boy again.

6 August 1914
The clouds are as fluffy as a pillow, the sun is as bright as a light bulb, the grass is as green as a clover. Today is a hot sunny day a great day to relax but I’m at war so no time to dream about this beautiful day, of we go to war no time to chat.

Matariki

Matariki
A few years ago, many New Zealanders knew very little about Matariki. Matariki is known as “the Maori New Year”. The ancestors cherished and breathed new life into Matariki. Today Matariki is an important festival in our calendar. It is getting popular year by year. Did you know Matariki is made up of many groups of stars that has been there for thousands of years?

In June you might get to see Matariki’s beautiful glory, if you keep your eyes close to the sky. Before dawn, you can see Matariki brightly in the sky.  If you spot Matariki in the morning, make sure you look out for the next new moon. Did you know a new moon is invisible?  But soon after this stage,  it appears as a tiny crescent of light that grows slowly night by night. When you see the seven stars and a new moon you would know that is matariki, the maori new year has began. Some people might say that if the stars are faint or hazy that means a cold season will follow. However, if the stars are bright and clear to see,  it means the coming season is warm and crops will be plenty. Year of plenty.

Our Father

Screenshot 2015-06-11 at 9.25.53 AM.pngOur Father
My father you're so holy,
you love me so much.
You are like a fortress
protecting me.
You saved me from starvation.
Give us our daily bread,
just like a mother
comforting a child.
You helped us not to sin
and you forgive our sins
because you love us so much.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen
